HABITS TO KEEP YOUR FAMILY HEALTHY! 

Secrets to a long and happy life for you and your family.

DON'T GO HUNGRY! -  It's important to eat to stay at a healthy weight. Starving yourself won't work.  You need to put fuel in your body regularly or you will become insatiably hungry (as well as cranky!)  Keep some nuts, preferably almonds, on hand to carry you over when you feel that hunger button turn on.

HAVE A DEFINITE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH OPTION.  If you wait to the last minute, you are more likely to make poor choices.  Oatmeal with some fresh fruit or raisins and nuts on it is a good choice for breakfast.  For lunch try a tuna or turkey sandwich on whole grain bread.  If you do PBJ's for the kids, put less jelly on it so it's a healthier choice and serve with piece of fruit.  Clear or vegetable soups are a good choice too.

EXERCISE EVERY DAY AND DO IT AT HOME!  Twenty minutes a day is easy to put in the flow of your daily routine if you do it at home.  If you go out of the house to exercise it can take over an hour.  Twenty minutes you can fit in anytime at home.  You can take a walk around the block, skip rope, alternate crunches and push ups!  Also important is to have you and your children adjusted by a chiropractor.  A healthy family is an adjusted family.

BE IN CHARGE OF THE FOOD THAT COMES INTO YOUR HOME.  As a parent, it's up to you to make the good choices at the supermarket.  If you don't buy the chips and sweets to begin with, the kids won't even miss them.  Keep good snacks like nuts and pretzels, fruit and veggies washed and chopped in your frig.  Everyone will eat the healthy choices when they are hungry enough.

ENJOY DINNER TOGETHER EVERY NIGHT.  For all of you to have a greater appreciation of just how precious your bodies are, you can't beat sitting down with the kids.  It's also a good time to create emotional harmony which is definitely a plus for your long term health.  If dinner won't work, try breakfast for your family sit down meal.

PLAY IS IMPORTANT.  Play together every day whether it's turning on music and dancing around the house together for 20 minutes activates your muscles and is a good anti aging move.  Play catch, a game of soccer, touch football, or shoot hoops together.

LET THE KIDS POLICE YOU TOO!  Talk to the kids about smart eating goals and encourage them to call you out if you grab junk food.  It can make them feel like they are part of the solution instead of feeling they are being singled out as the only ones who have to following the healthy eating rules.

BEDTIME ROUTINE.  You can tell the little ones a bedtime story or talk to the older kids about their day.  They often let their guard down when they're tired and about to go to sleep.  You can really hear what's on their minds.
A good night's sleep keeps you young.  Keep your bedroom cool and dark and no tv. 

BONDING IN BED.  Regular sex can add an extra three years to your life expectancy.  That blissful moment of being in each other's arms is crucial for strengthening your relationship and your health, keeping you close.
