Chiropractic Care and TMJ Syndrome

Klein Chiropractic Center

If you place your fingers in front of each ear and open your jaw, you can feel lots of movement.  This is where your skull's temporal bone attaches to your mandible (jaw); the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).  Lots of ligaments, cartilage, fascia, discs, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels run in, around and through it.

When the TMJ joint is misaligned it is called TMJ Syndrome.  Common symptoms include the inability to open the mouth wide and a clicking or popping sound when the mouth opens or closes.  In some severe cases the jaw can even temporarily lock up!  Other TMJ symptoms can include headaches, hearing loss, tinnitus, cheek or jaw pain, and eye or ear pain.

Chiropractic can be effective at reducing your pain associated with your TMJ, either when used alone or as a complement to other treatments.  Chiropractic care for the TMJ joint can ease pain by correcting the misalignment between your spine and nervous system.  Rather than changing your diet or modifying your teeth, it relaxes your muscles, adjusts your joints and uses specific trigger points to accurately re-position your jaw.  When done successfully, this will not only relieve your pain in the short run, but it can help prevent your TMJ pain from returning.

If you are experiencing symptoms of TMJ, receiving treatment from a chiropractor can help!  Please reach out to Dr. Jeffrey Klein, Klein Chiropractic Center, West Chester, PA .
