Chiropractic Care Q & A

What Precisely Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a form of healthcare that takes into account the many different ways the body’s systems interact and affect one another. The field focuses on using natural and non-invasive procedures to improve the body’s overall health, as well as to treat specific ailments.

Some of the treatments and procedures that chiropractors offer include the following:

  • manual adjustments
  • joint and muscle pain treatments
  • posture correction
  • massage therapy
  • sciatica and disc injury treatments

While the procedures that chiropractors use aren’t invasive, they sometimes do require specialized equipment. For instance, many chiropractors use ArthroStim® and VibraCussor® technology

What Exactly is ArthroStim and VibraCussor Technology?

ArthroStim and VibraCussor are two instruments developed by IMPAC Inc. The instruments work in similar ways, but they’re used for slightly different purposes. Both release tension by vibrating tissue. They can be extremely effective, because the instruments’ vibrations radiate through tissue to reach secondary pressure points in addition to the primary point being treated. The ArthroStim is mainly used to treat pain in and around joints, while the VibraCussor releases tension in muscles and fasciae. (Fasciae are thin bands of tissue that enclose muscles or organs.)

What Should Patients Look for in a Chiropractor?

When selecting a chiropractor, patients should look for someone who is both licensed and a member of chiropractic associations or organizations. Licensure lets chiropractors legally provide chiropractic care, and membership in a professional association or organization shows that the chiropractor is respected by others in their field.

Patients may also want to seek out a chiropractor that has an office near them. Some patients need to see a chiropractor more than once, and many benefit from ongoing chiropractic care. If multiple appointments are needed, going to a conveniently located practitioner makes getting to and from each appointment quick and easy.
